How is this different from regular soybean oil?
Regular soybean oil contains about 7-8% linolenic acid (an omega-3), which makes it prone to oxidation and off-flavors. Low linolenic soybean oil has been bred to contain only about 3% linolenic acid, making it far more stable for frying and extending product shelf life.
Is this the same as 'vegetable oil'?
Often, yes. In many countries, a product simply labeled 'vegetable oil' is a blend of refined oils, with soybean oil being the most common primary component. Low linolenic soy oil is a specific, more stable type of soy oil frequently used in these blends.
Can I use this for deep frying at home?
Absolutely. Its high smoke point (around 230°C/450°F) and stability make it an excellent and economical choice for home deep frying, as it will produce less foam and maintain quality longer than less stable oils.
