What's the difference between hulled and pearl barley?
Hulled barley is minimally processed, with only the inedible outer husk removed, making it a whole grain. Pearl barley has been further polished to remove the bran layer, resulting in a quicker cook time but less fiber and nutrients.
How do I cook hulled barley?
Rinse the barley. For every 1 cup of barley, use about 3-4 cups of water or broth. Bring to a boil, then simmer, covered, for 40-50 minutes until tender and chewy. Drain any excess liquid.
