Ingredients
- 1 sesame seed hamburger bun
- 1/4 lb (4 oz) ground beef (80/20)
- 1 slice American cheese
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 2 slices dill pickle
- 2 slices tomato
- 1/4 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 slice onion (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
- Divide ground beef into a ball, then flatten into a patty slightly larger than the bun (it will shrink). Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Grill or pan-fry the patty for 3-4 minutes per side for medium doneness. In the last minute, place cheese slice on top and cover to melt.
- Toast the cut sides of the bun on the grill or in a toaster until golden.
- Spread mayonnaise on the top half of the bun and ketchup on the bottom half.
- On the bottom bun, layer pickles, tomato slices, lettuce, and onion (if using).
- Place the patty with cheese on top of the vegetables.
- Close with the top bun and serve immediately.
Tips
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of smoked paprika to the patty.
- Serve with fries and a drink for a complete meal.
- If you don't have a grill, a cast-iron skillet works great.
