Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 tablespoon vegetable shortening
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add flour and salt; mix until crumbly. Press half of the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
Bake for 12-15 minutes until lightly golden. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
In a small bowl, stir together sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract. Pour over the baked crust and spread evenly.
Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture over the filling. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the top is lightly browned.
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt chocolate chips and shortening in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Drizzle or spread over the warm bars.
Let cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour before cutting into bars.
Tips
For cleaner cuts, use a sharp knife and wipe it clean between cuts.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
You can substitute white chocolate chips for the semisweet for a different flavor.
