Ingredients
1 cup whole milk
1 shot (1 oz) espresso or 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee
2 tablespoons vanilla syrup (recipe below)
For vanilla syrup: 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Make vanilla syrup: In a small saucepan, combine water and sugar. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract, and let cool.
Brew a shot of espresso (or 1/2 cup strong coffee) into a mug.
In a small saucepan, heat milk over medium heat until steaming, but do not boil. Alternatively, microwave for 1-2 minutes.
Froth the milk using a milk frother, whisk, or by shaking in a jar until foamy.
Pour the vanilla syrup into the mug with espresso and stir.
Top with frothed milk, spooning foam on top. Serve immediately.
Tips
For a dairy-free version, use oat milk or almond milk.
Adjust sweetness by adding more or less vanilla syrup.
Store leftover vanilla syrup in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
