Ingredients
- 1 (6-inch) Italian sub roll or hoagie roll
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 4 slices deli turkey breast (about 4 oz)
- 2 slices provolone cheese
- 2 leaves lettuce, shredded
- 2 slices tomato
- 2 slices red onion, separated into rings
- 2 pepperoncini peppers, sliced (optional)
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise (optional)
Instructions
- Slice the roll in half lengthwise. If desired, lightly toast the cut sides under a broiler or in a toaster oven.
- In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, red wine vinegar, oregano, salt, and pepper. Brush the cut sides of the roll with the dressing.
- On the bottom half of the roll, layer the turkey slices, folding them to fit. Top with provolone cheese.
- Add shredded lettuce, tomato slices, red onion rings, and pepperoncini (if using).
- Spread mayonnaise on the top half of the roll (if using) and place it on top. Press gently and serve immediately.
Tips
- For a warm sandwich, toast the assembled sub in a 350°F oven for 5-7 minutes until cheese melts.
- Substitute roast beef or ham for turkey if desired.
