Ingredients
1 lb ground turkey (93% lean)
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp olive oil
4 hamburger buns, split and toasted
1 ripe avocado, sliced
4 lettuce leaves
4 slices tomato
Optional: ketchup, mustard, or mayo
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined; do not overmix.
Divide mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into 1/2-inch-thick patties. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 5-6 minutes per side, or until internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
During the last minute of cooking, place buns cut-side down on the skillet to toast lightly.
Assemble burgers: place lettuce on bottom bun, top with turkey patty, avocado slices, tomato, and any desired condiments. Cover with top bun.
Tips
For extra flavor, add 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce or dried herbs to the turkey mixture.
To prevent sticking, ensure the pan is hot before adding patties.
Leftover patties can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
