Ingredients
- 1 lb sushi-grade ahi tuna loin
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp mirin
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup daikon radish, julienned (optional)
Instructions
- Mix soy sauce, mirin, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, and sugar in a small bowl to make the dipping sauce. Set aside.
- Pat tuna dry with paper towels. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
- Heat vegetable oil in a cast-iron or heavy skillet over high heat until smoking.
- Sear tuna for 30-60 seconds per side, until browned but still rare in the center. Remove and let rest 2 minutes.
- Slice tuna into 1/4-inch thick slices against the grain.
- Arrange on a plate, drizzle with sauce, and garnish with sesame seeds, green onions, and daikon (if using). Serve immediately.
