Ingredients
4 slices Taylor ham (pork roll), about 4 oz
1 large egg
1 slice American cheese
1 kaiser roll, split
1 tablespoon butter, softened
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Slice the Taylor ham about 1/4-inch thick. If using pre-sliced, separate slices.
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the Taylor ham slices in a single layer and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until lightly browned and edges crisp. Remove and set aside.
While the ham cooks, spread the cut sides of the kaiser roll with butter and toast in a separate skillet or under the broiler until golden.
In the same skillet used for the ham, crack the egg and fry to your liking (sunny-side up or over easy). Season with salt and pepper.
Place the cheese slice on the bottom half of the toasted roll. Layer the cooked Taylor ham on top of the cheese.
Carefully place the fried egg over the ham. Top with the other half of the roll. Serve immediately.
Tips
Taylor ham is also known as pork roll; if unavailable, substitute with Canadian bacon or ham.
For extra flavor, add ketchup, hot sauce, or a drizzle of maple syrup.
To make it a 'Taylor ham, egg, and cheese on a bagel', use a toasted bagel instead of a kaiser roll.
