Ingredients
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 pound ground beef (80/20)
1 medium onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup tomato sauce
1/4 cup water
Instructions
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart, until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if desired.
Add onion and garlic to the skillet; cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper; cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
Add tomato sauce and water; bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring occasionally, until thickened, about 5 minutes. Adjust seasoning to taste.
Serve immediately in warm tortillas or as a burrito filling.
Tips
For a spicier version, add 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper or a diced jalapeño with the onion.
Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
This filling also works well in nachos, quesadillas, or over rice.
