Ingredients
2 cups whole milk
2/3 cup granulated sugar
Instructions
In a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the milk and sugar. Stir to combine.
Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring frequently to dissolve the sugar.
Once simmering, reduce the heat to low and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes, or until the mixture has reduced by half and thickened slightly. Do not let it boil over.
Remove from heat and let cool completely. The mixture will thicken further as it cools.
Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
Tips
For a richer flavor, substitute 1/4 cup of the milk with heavy cream.
To make dairy-free, use full-fat coconut milk and increase cooking time slightly.
Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks; stir before using if separation occurs.
