Ingredients
1 loaf (1 lb) day-old white bread, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 large onion, chopped
2 celery stalks, chopped
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoons dried sage
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
1 1/2 cups chicken or turkey broth
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread bread cubes on a baking sheet and toast for 10-15 minutes until dry and lightly golden. Transfer to a large bowl.
In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and celery; cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in salt, pepper, sage, thyme, and rosemary; cook 1 minute more.
Pour the vegetable mixture over the bread cubes. Add parsley and toss to combine.
In a small bowl, whisk together broth and eggs. Pour over bread mixture and stir gently until evenly moistened.
Transfer to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden and set.
Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Tips
For a crispier top, bake uncovered for the entire time, but check for doneness after 40 minutes.
If stuffing a turkey, increase broth to 2 cups and do not pre-bake; stuff loosely just before roasting.
Leftover stuffing can be reheated in a 350°F oven covered with foil.
Add cooked sausage, mushrooms, or dried cranberries for variation.
