Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) pork sausage meat
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried sage
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 sheet (about 9x13 inches) puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, combine sausage meat, onion, garlic, sage, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out puff pastry to a 12x16 inch rectangle. Cut lengthwise into two 6x16 inch strips.
- Divide sausage mixture in half. Shape each half into a log along the length of each pastry strip, about 1 inch from one edge.
- Brush the opposite edge of each pastry strip with beaten egg. Fold the pastry over the filling to enclose, pressing edges to seal. Crimp with a fork.
- Cut each log into 6 equal pieces (about 2.5 inches each). Place seam-side down on prepared baking sheet.
- Brush tops with beaten egg. Optional: sprinkle with sesame seeds or poppy seeds.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Let cool slightly before serving.
Tips
- Serve warm or at room temperature with ketchup or brown sauce.
- Can be made ahead and reheated in a 350°F oven for 5 minutes.
- For a twist, add grated apple or chopped herbs to the filling.
