Ingredients
1 pound pizza dough, store-bought or homemade
1/2 cup pizza sauce
8 ounces fresh mozzarella, sliced
8 ounces Italian sausage, casings removed
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon dried oregano
Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 500°F (260°C) with a pizza stone or inverted baking sheet inside for at least 30 minutes.
On a floured surface, stretch or roll pizza dough into a 12-inch round. Transfer to a floured pizza peel or parchment paper.
Spread pizza sauce evenly over dough, leaving a 1-inch border. Arrange mozzarella slices on top.
In a skillet over medium heat, cook sausage with olive oil, breaking it into small pieces, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
Scatter cooked sausage over the cheese. Sprinkle with Parmesan and oregano.
Slide pizza onto preheated stone or baking sheet. Bake until crust is golden and cheese is bubbly, 12-15 minutes.
Let cool for 5 minutes, then garnish with fresh basil if desired. Slice and serve.
Tips
For a crispier crust, par-bake the dough for 3 minutes before adding toppings.
Leftover pizza can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat in a hot oven or skillet.
Substitute with spicy Italian sausage for extra heat.
