Ingredients
1 lb pizza dough, at room temperature
1/2 lb Italian sausage, casings removed
8 oz cremini mushrooms, sliced
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup pizza sauce
2 tbsp olive oil
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
Salt and black pepper to taste
2 tbsp fresh basil, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 500°F (260°C) with a pizza stone or inverted baking sheet inside for at least 30 minutes.
In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook sausage, breaking it into crumbles, until browned (about 5 minutes). Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside.
In the same skillet, add 1 tbsp olive oil and mushrooms. Cook until golden and moisture evaporates (about 5 minutes). Season with salt and pepper. Set aside.
On a floured surface, stretch dough into a 12-inch round, about 1/4 inch thick. Transfer to a floured pizza peel or parchment paper.
Brush dough with remaining olive oil and rub with garlic. Spread pizza sauce evenly, leaving a 1/2-inch border. Top with mozzarella, sausage, and mushrooms. Sprinkle red pepper flakes if desired.
Slide pizza onto hot stone or baking sheet. Bake until crust is golden and cheese bubbles (10-12 minutes).
Garnish with fresh basil, slice, and serve immediately.
Tips
For extra crispiness, par-bake the crust for 3 minutes before adding toppings.
Substitute turkey sausage for a lighter option.
Leftover pizza can be reheated in a skillet or oven for best texture.
