Ingredients
1 cup long-grain white rice
1 ½ cups water
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon butter or oil (optional)
Instructions
Place the rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear, about 1 minute. Drain well.
In a medium saucepan with a tight-fitting lid, combine the rinsed rice, water, salt, and butter (if using). Bring to a boil over high heat.
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18 minutes. Do not lift the lid during cooking.
Remove from heat and let stand, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork before serving.
Tips
For extra flavor, substitute water with chicken or vegetable broth.
Leftover rice can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
To reheat, sprinkle with a little water and microwave covered, or reheat in a skillet with a splash of water.
