Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Divide ground beef into 4 equal portions (6 oz each). Shape into patties slightly larger than the buns, about 3/4 inch thick. Season both sides with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Press a small indent in the center of each patty to prevent puffing.
  2. Cook bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crispy, about 6-8 minutes. Transfer to paper towels to drain. Pour off all but 1 tbsp bacon fat from the skillet.
  3. Increase heat to medium-high. Cook patties in the hot skillet for 4 minutes per side for medium, or to desired doneness. If using cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover the skillet to melt.
  4. Toast buns in the skillet or under the broiler until lightly golden.
  5. Assemble burgers: spread mayonnaise on bottom bun, add lettuce, tomato slices, patty with cheese, bacon, and top bun. Serve immediately.
