Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Season ground beef with salt and pepper; divide into two equal portions and shape into thin patties slightly larger than the bread slices.
  2. Melt 1 tbsp butter in a skillet over medium heat; add sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until deeply caramelized, about 15 minutes. Remove onions and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, cook patties over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes per side until cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  4. Spread softened butter on one side of each bread slice. Place two slices buttered side down on a clean skillet. Top each with a slice of Swiss cheese, a patty, half the caramelized onions, another slice of Swiss cheese, and a second bread slice buttered side up.
  5. Cook sandwiches over medium heat for 2-3 minutes per side, until bread is golden brown and cheese is melted. Serve immediately.
