Ingredients
1 ciabatta roll or 2 slices crusty Italian bread
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
3 ounces fresh mozzarella, sliced
3 slices prosciutto
2-3 fresh basil leaves
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
Slice the ciabatta roll in half horizontally. Drizzle the cut sides with olive oil.
Layer the bottom half with mozzarella slices, prosciutto, and basil leaves. Season with salt and pepper. Top with the other bread half.
Heat a panini press or a heavy skillet over medium heat. If using a skillet, place the sandwich in the pan and weigh it down with another heavy pan or a foil-wrapped brick.
Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until the bread is golden and crispy and the cheese is melted. Serve immediately.
Tips
For extra flavor, add a drizzle of balsamic glaze or a few sun-dried tomatoes.
If using a skillet, flip carefully to keep the sandwich intact.
