Ingredients
2 cups fresh orange juice (from about 4-6 oranges)
1 tablespoon finely grated orange zest
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup water
1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional, for brightness)
Instructions
In a small saucepan, combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
Stir in orange juice, orange zest, and lemon juice (if using). Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or until cold.
Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
Transfer the sorbet to an airtight container and freeze for at least 4 hours, or until firm.
Scoop and serve. If frozen solid, let sit at room temperature for 5 minutes before scooping.
Tips
For a smoother texture, strain the mixture before churning to remove zest if desired.
Store in the freezer for up to 2 weeks; cover surface with plastic wrap to prevent ice crystals.
Garnish with fresh mint or additional orange zest for serving.
