Ingredients
1/2 cup oat bran
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon salt
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together oat bran, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
Add cold butter cubes to the dry mixture. Use a pastry blender or your fingers to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized butter pieces.
Spread the crumble mixture evenly on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 8-10 minutes, stirring halfway through, until golden brown and fragrant.
Let cool completely on the baking sheet. The crumble will crisp up as it cools.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
Tips
For a gluten-free version, substitute the all-purpose flour with gluten-free flour blend.
This topping can be doubled and stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Sprinkle over ice cream, baked apples, or use as a crust for cheesecake.
