Ingredients

- 1 orange, sliced into rounds
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 6 whole cloves
- 3 star anise
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
- 1/4 cup brandy or orange liqueur (optional)
Instructions
- Combine red wine, honey, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, and nutmeg in a large pot.
- Warm over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until honey dissolves and mixture is hot but not boiling (about 10 minutes).
- Reduce heat to low and let simmer gently for 10 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
- Remove from heat. Stir in brandy if using.
- Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a heatproof pitcher or directly into mugs. Serve warm.
