Ingredients
1 pound block low-moisture mozzarella cheese
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Vegetable oil, for frying
Marinara sauce, for dipping
Instructions
Cut the mozzarella block into 16 sticks, about 3 inches long and 1/2 inch thick. Pat dry with paper towels.
Set up a breading station: Place flour in a shallow bowl. In another bowl, whisk eggs and milk. In a third bowl, combine Italian breadcrumbs, panko, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.
Coat each cheese stick in flour, shaking off excess. Dip into egg mixture, then roll in breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere. Place on a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Freeze for at least 1 hour until firm.
Heat 2 inches of oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry 4-5 sticks at a time for 1-2 minutes, turning once, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
Serve immediately with warm marinara sauce.
Tips
Freezing the sticks is essential to prevent cheese from leaking during frying.
For extra crispiness, double-coat: repeat egg and breadcrumb steps after first coating.
Leftover sticks can be reheated in an air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes.
