Ingredients
1 pound block low-moisture mozzarella cheese
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Vegetable oil, for frying
Marinara sauce, for serving
Instructions
Cut the mozzarella block into 16 sticks, about 1/2-inch thick and 3 inches long. Pat dry with paper towels.
Set up a breading station: one shallow bowl with flour, another with eggs beaten with milk, and a third with breadcrumbs, panko, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper mixed together.
Coat each mozzarella stick in flour, shaking off excess. Dip into egg mixture, then coat thoroughly with breadcrumb mixture. Press crumbs to adhere. Place on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours).
Heat 2 inches of oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C). Line a plate with paper towels.
Fry frozen mozzarella sticks in batches, without crowding, for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
Serve immediately with warm marinara sauce.
Tips
Freezing the breaded sticks is essential to prevent the cheese from leaking during frying.
For extra crispiness, double bread: after first breading, dip back into egg and breadcrumbs again.
Leftover fried mozzarella can be reheated in an air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes.
