Ingredients
2 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch chunks
4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
1/4 cup heavy cream or milk
2 tbsp brown sugar (optional)
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
Place sweet potato chunks in a large pot and cover with cold water by 1 inch. Add a pinch of salt.
Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium-high and simmer until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
Drain well and return sweet potatoes to the pot. Let steam evaporate for 1 minute.
Add butter, cream, brown sugar (if using), cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
Mash with a potato masher or fork until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning to taste.
