Ingredients
1 shot (1 oz) freshly brewed espresso
1 tablespoon whole milk (or milk of choice)
Sugar to taste (optional)
Instructions
Brew a single shot of espresso into a small demitasse cup.
In a small pitcher, steam the milk using a steam wand until it is hot and slightly frothy (about 140°F). If you don't have a steam wand, heat the milk in a microwave for 15-20 seconds and whisk vigorously.
Using a spoon, hold back the foam and pour a small amount (about 1 tablespoon) of the steamed milk over the center of the espresso. Alternatively, spoon a dollop of foam on top.
Serve immediately. Add sugar to taste if desired.
Tips
For a traditional macchiato, use whole milk for the best texture.
If you prefer a stronger coffee flavor, use a double shot of espresso and adjust milk accordingly.
This drink is best consumed immediately after preparation.
