Ingredients
1 shot (1 oz) freshly brewed espresso
6 oz whole milk (or milk of choice)
Sugar or sweetener to taste (optional)
Instructions
Brew a single shot of espresso (about 1 oz) into a large coffee cup or latte glass.
Pour the milk into a small saucepan and heat over medium heat until steaming but not boiling, about 150°F (65°C). Alternatively, steam the milk using an espresso machine steam wand.
Froth the heated milk using a milk frother, whisk, or by vigorously shaking in a sealed jar until it doubles in volume and has a creamy microfoam.
Pour the frothed milk over the espresso, holding back the foam with a spoon. Spoon the remaining foam on top.
If desired, add sugar or sweetener to taste and stir gently. Serve immediately.
Tips
For a stronger coffee flavor, use a double shot of espresso.
Non-dairy milks like oat or almond work well but may produce less foam.
To create latte art, pour the milk in a steady stream and finish with a wiggle.
