Ingredients
1 pound pizza dough, store-bought or homemade
1/2 pound sweet or hot Italian sausage, casings removed
1/2 cup pizza sauce
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
Fresh basil leaves for garnish
Instructions
Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C) with a pizza stone or inverted baking sheet inside for at least 30 minutes.
On a floured surface, stretch or roll pizza dough into a 12-inch round. Transfer to a floured pizza peel or parchment paper.
In a skillet over medium heat, cook sausage, breaking it into crumbles, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
Spread pizza sauce evenly over dough, leaving a 1-inch border. Sprinkle with mozzarella, then top with cooked sausage. Drizzle with olive oil and red pepper flakes if using.
Slide pizza onto preheated stone or baking sheet. Bake until crust is golden and cheese is bubbly, 12-15 minutes.
Remove from oven, sprinkle with Parmesan and fresh basil. Slice and serve.
Tips
For a crispier crust, par-bake the dough for 3 minutes before adding toppings.
Leftover pizza can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
