4 hot dog buns
2 tablespoons yellow mustard
2 tablespoons ketchup
2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
1/4 cup chopped onion (optional)
4 pickle spears (optional)
Instructions
Bring a small pot of water to a boil. Add the hot dogs and cook for 4-5 minutes until heated through. Alternatively, grill or pan-fry the hot dogs over medium heat until browned.
While the hot dogs cook, warm the buns in a toaster oven or on a skillet for 1-2 minutes until lightly toasted.
Place each hot dog in a bun. Squeeze a line of mustard and ketchup on top, then add a spoonful of relish.
If desired, top with chopped onion and serve with a pickle spear on the side.
Tips
For a classic New York-style hot dog, add sauerkraut and spicy brown mustard.
To make Chicago-style, top with yellow mustard, chopped white onion, sweet pickle relish, a dill pickle spear, tomato slices, pickled sport peppers, and a dash of celery salt.
Leftover hot dogs can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
