  2. In a large bowl, whisk together cream, milk, garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  3. Layer half of the potato slices in the baking dish, overlapping slightly. Sprinkle with half of the ham, then half of the Gruyère and Parmesan.
  4. Pour half of the cream mixture over the layers.
  5. Repeat with remaining potatoes, ham, cheeses, and cream mixture.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, until potatoes are tender and top is golden brown.
  7. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
