Ingredients
1 lb ground beef (80/20)
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 medium onion, sliced
8 oz mushrooms, sliced
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined. Shape into 4 oval patties, about 3/4 inch thick.
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through (internal temperature 160°F). Transfer to a plate and keep warm.
In the same skillet, add sliced onion and mushrooms. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until softened and browned, about 5-7 minutes.
Sprinkle flour over the vegetables and stir for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in beef broth, ketchup, and remaining 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer, scraping up browned bits. Cook until gravy thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
Return patties to the skillet, spooning gravy over them. Simmer for 2 minutes to reheat. Serve immediately.
Tips
For best flavor, use 80/20 ground beef; leaner beef may result in drier patties.
Make ahead: Prepare patties and refrigerate up to 24 hours before cooking.
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
