Ingredients
1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
4 hamburger buns
4 slices American cheese (optional)
Instructions
Divide ground beef into 4 equal portions (about 4 oz each). Gently shape each into a patty about 3/4 inch thick, making a slight indentation in the center to prevent puffing.
Season both sides of patties with salt, pepper, and garlic powder (if using).
Heat a grill, grill pan, or large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side for medium doneness (internal temp 160°F). If using cheese, add a slice during the last minute and cover to melt.
Toast buns on the grill or in a separate pan until lightly golden.
Assemble burgers: place patty on bottom bun, add cheese if using, then top bun. Serve immediately.
Tips
For juicier patties, avoid overworking the meat.
Let patties rest for 2 minutes after cooking.
Store leftover patties in fridge for up to 3 days.
