Ingredients
4 cups red or black seedless grapes (about 1.5 lbs)
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
Wash the grapes and remove any stems. Place grapes in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
Press the grape puree through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl to remove skins and seeds. Discard solids.
In a small saucepan, combine water and sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring, until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Stir the sugar syrup and lemon juice into the grape juice. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
Pour the mixture into a shallow metal or glass dish (about 9x13 inches). Place in the freezer.
After 1 hour, use a fork to scrape and stir the mixture, breaking up any ice crystals. Repeat every 30 minutes for about 3-4 hours, until the granita is fluffy and icy.
Once fully frozen and flaky, scrape again with a fork before serving.
Tips
For a sweeter granita, add more sugar to taste.
Serve in chilled glasses or bowls for best texture.
Store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 1 week; scrape before serving.
