Ingredients
500 g ground beef
250 g ground pork
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 eggs
100 g breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon dried marjoram
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
500 ml beef broth
1 tablespoon tomato paste
Instructions
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, onion, garlic, eggs, breadcrumbs, mustard, marjoram, salt, and pepper. Mix well until evenly combined.
Shape the mixture into a loaf shape and place in a greased baking dish.
Bake for 50-60 minutes, until cooked through and browned. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes.
While the meatloaf rests, make the gravy: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute.
Gradually whisk in beef broth and tomato paste. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Slice the meatloaf and serve with the gravy poured over the top.
Tips
Serve with mashed potatoes, red cabbage, or a side of steamed vegetables.
Leftover Hackbraten makes excellent sandwiches.
For a richer gravy, use pan drippings from the meatloaf instead of butter.
