Ingredients
2 teaspoons genmaicha tea leaves (or 1 tea bag)
1 cup (8 oz) filtered water, just off the boil (about 175°F / 80°C)
Instructions
Place genmaicha leaves in a teapot or cup. If using a tea bag, place it in the cup.
Heat water to about 175°F (80°C) – just before boiling, with small bubbles forming.
Pour the hot water over the tea leaves or bag.
Steep for 2-3 minutes. For a stronger flavor, steep up to 4 minutes.
Remove the tea leaves or bag. If using loose leaves, pour through a strainer.
Serve immediately. Enjoy the nutty, toasty aroma.
Tips
Do not use boiling water, as it can make the tea bitter.
For a traditional touch, serve in a small Japanese tea cup.
Store genmaicha in an airtight container away from light and strong odors.
