Ingredients
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water (110°F)
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water; let stand until foamy, about 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and olive oil; stir until dough forms.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, turning once to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
- Punch down dough; divide into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 6-inch rope.
- Place ropes on greased baking sheets, cover, and let rise until puffy, about 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 400°F. In a small bowl, mix melted butter and minced garlic; brush over breadsticks.
- Sprinkle with oregano, basil, and Parmesan if using. Bake until golden brown, 12-15 minutes.
- Serve warm.
Tips
- For extra garlic flavor, add 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder to the flour mixture.
- Leftover breadsticks can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
- Reheat in a 350°F oven for 5 minutes to refresh.
