Ingredients
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang on two sides.
In a large bowl, beat softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
Add vanilla extract and mix until combined.
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Gradually add to butter mixture, mixing until just combined and a soft dough forms.
Press dough evenly into the prepared pan. Use a fork to prick the dough all over to prevent bubbling.
Bake for 18-22 minutes, until edges are lightly golden. Cool completely in pan on a wire rack before adding any topping or cutting into bars.
Tips
For a firmer crust, chill the pressed dough in the refrigerator for 15 minutes before baking.
Store baked crust in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 1 month.
