Ingredients
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, panko, Parmesan (if using), garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Add cold butter cubes. Using a pastry blender or your fingers, work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized butter pieces.
Spread the crumble mixture evenly on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 8-10 minutes, stirring halfway, until golden brown and fragrant.
Let cool completely on the baking sheet. Use immediately or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
Tips
For a herby version, add 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley or thyme with the dry ingredients.
Substitute panko with crushed crackers or cornflakes for a different texture.
Sprinkle over casseroles before the last 10 minutes of baking to keep the topping crunchy.
