Ingredients
1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
4 slices Colby-Jack cheese
4 hamburger buns, split
4 leaves lettuce
4 slices tomato
4 slices red onion
ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise (to taste)
Instructions
Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape into 3/4-inch thick patties, making a slight indentation in the center of each.
Season both sides of patties with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Preheat a grill or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 4 minutes per side for medium, or to desired doneness.
During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Colby-Jack cheese on each patty and cover to melt.
Toast the buns on the grill or in a separate skillet until lightly golden.
Assemble burgers: place lettuce, tomato, and onion on bottom bun, add the patty with cheese, and spread condiments on top bun. Serve immediately.
Tips
For juicier burgers, avoid pressing down on the patties while cooking.
Customize with your favorite toppings like pickles, bacon, or avocado.
Leftover cooked patties can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in a skillet.
