Ingredients
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup water
1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 6-8 lemons)
3-4 cups cold water
ice cubes
lemon slices for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Make the simple syrup: In a small saucepan, combine sugar and 1 cup water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
Juice the lemons to get 1 cup of fresh lemon juice. Strain to remove seeds.
In a large pitcher, combine the cooled simple syrup, lemon juice, and 3-4 cups cold water. Stir well.
Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness by adding more sugar or lemon juice as desired.
Refrigerate until chilled, or serve immediately over ice. Garnish with lemon slices if desired.
Tips
For a stronger lemon flavor, add a few strips of lemon zest to the simple syrup while it cools.
Store leftover lemonade in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
To make fizzy lemonade, replace half the cold water with sparkling water.
