Ingredients
1 1/2 lbs ground beef (80/20)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
4 hamburger buns
4 slices American cheese
4 lettuce leaves
4 slices tomato
4 slices red onion
ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise to taste
Instructions
1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until just combined; do not overwork.
2. Divide mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent bulging.
3. Preheat grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 4 minutes on the first side, then flip and cook for 3-4 minutes for medium. Add cheese slice on top during the last minute, cover to melt.
4. Toast buns on the grill or in a skillet until lightly golden.
5. Assemble burgers: spread condiments on bun bottoms, add lettuce, tomato, onion, patty with cheese, and bun top. Serve immediately.
Tips
Use 80/20 ground beef for the juiciest results.
Let patties rest for 2 minutes after cooking before serving.
