1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cups buttermilk
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 pint vanilla ice cream
1 cup hot fudge sauce, warmed
1 cup whipped cream
4 maraschino cherries
Instructions
Preheat waffle iron according to manufacturer's instructions.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, oil, egg, and vanilla. Pour into dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
Pour about 1/2 cup batter onto the center of the hot waffle iron. Close lid and cook until waffle is crisp and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes. Repeat with remaining batter.
Place one chocolate waffle on each serving plate. Top each with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Drizzle warm hot fudge sauce over ice cream. Top with a dollop of whipped cream and a cherry. Serve immediately.
Tips
For extra richness, add 1/2 cup chocolate chips to the batter.
Store leftover waffles in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days; reheat in a toaster before serving.
