Ingredients
1 lb ground beef (80/20)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
4 slices cheddar cheese
4 hamburger buns
4 leaves lettuce
4 slices tomato
4 slices onion
ketchup and mustard to taste
Instructions
Divide ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape into patties slightly larger than the buns, about 3/4 inch thick. Season both sides with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce.
Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 4 minutes on the first side, then flip and place a slice of cheese on each. Cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium doneness.
During the last minute, toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster until lightly golden.
Assemble burgers: place lettuce on bottom bun, then patty with cheese, tomato, onion, and condiments. Top with bun.
Serve immediately with your favorite sides.
Tips
Handle the meat gently to avoid tough burgers; make a small indent in the center of each patty to prevent puffing.
Let patties rest for 2 minutes after cooking to allow juices to redistribute.
Store leftover cooked patties in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat in a skillet.
