Ingredients
1/2 cup gum base (pellets or block, chopped)
1/2 cup powdered sugar, plus more for dusting
1/4 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon glycerin
1/2 teaspoon bubblegum flavoring oil
1/4 teaspoon citric acid (optional, for tartness)
1-2 drops pink food coloring (optional)
Instructions
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine gum base and corn syrup. Microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring between each, until melted and smooth (about 2 minutes total).
Stir in glycerin, bubblegum flavoring, citric acid (if using), and food coloring (if using) until well combined.
Sift powdered sugar onto a clean work surface. Pour the gum mixture onto the sugar and let cool for 1-2 minutes until handleable.
Knead the gum, incorporating the powdered sugar, until it becomes smooth and no longer sticky. Add more sugar if needed.
Roll the gum into a long rope about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into 20 equal pieces.
Shape each piece into a ball or pillow, then dust lightly with powdered sugar to prevent sticking.
Let the gum cure at room temperature for at least 4 hours (or overnight) before wrapping in wax paper or storing in an airtight container.
Tips
Gum base can be found online or at specialty baking stores.
For a softer chew, reduce the amount of powdered sugar slightly.
Store in a cool, dry place for up to 2 weeks. Do not refrigerate.
