Ingredients
- 2 slices white bread
- 2 slices bologna (about 1/4 inch thick)
- 1 slice American cheese
- 1 tablespoon butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard (optional)
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise (optional)
Instructions
- Butter one side of each bread slice. Place butter-side down on a cutting board.
- Spread mustard and/or mayonnaise on the unbuttered sides if desired.
- In a non-stick skillet over medium heat, cook bologna slices for 1-2 minutes per side until lightly browned and curling at edges.
- Place one slice of bread butter-side down in the skillet. Top with cheese slice, then fried bologna, then second bread slice butter-side up.
- Cook until bottom is golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Carefully flip and cook until other side is golden and cheese is melted, about 2 minutes more.
- Remove from skillet, let cool slightly, then slice diagonally and serve.
Tips
- For extra flavor, use a panini press or grill the sandwich in a skillet with a weight on top.
- Serve with pickles, potato chips, or a side of tomato soup.
- Substitute provolone or cheddar for American cheese if preferred.
