Ingredients
500g beef sirloin or round steak, thinly sliced
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup calamansi juice (or lemon juice)
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 large onions, sliced into rings
1 cup water
Salt to taste
Instructions
In a bowl, combine beef slices, soy sauce, calamansi juice, black pepper, and minced garlic. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.
Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Remove beef from marinade (reserve marinade) and sear each side for 1-2 minutes until browned. Do in batches to avoid overcrowding. Set aside.
In the same pan, sauté onion rings until translucent and slightly caramelized, about 3-4 minutes. Remove half of the onions for garnish.
Add the reserved marinade and water to the pan. Bring to a boil, then lower heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
Return the beef to the pan. Simmer for another 5-10 minutes until beef is tender and sauce thickens slightly. Adjust seasoning with salt if needed.
Transfer to a serving plate, top with reserved caramelized onions, and serve hot with steamed rice.
Tips
Marinate overnight for deeper flavor.
Use a tender cut like sirloin or flank steak for best results.
Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
