Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 3/4 cup cold buttermilk
- 4 sausage patties (about 1/2 lb)
- 4 large eggs
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon butter for cooking eggs
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450°F. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
- Cut in cold butter using a pastry blender or fingertips until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add buttermilk and stir just until dough comes together. Turn onto a floured surface and knead gently 4-5 times.
- Pat dough to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut out 4 biscuits with a 3-inch round cutter. Place on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly.
- While biscuits bake, cook sausage patties in a skillet over medium heat until browned and cooked through, about 4 minutes per side. Keep warm.
- In the same skillet, melt 1 tablespoon butter. Fry eggs to desired doneness, seasoning with salt and pepper.
- Split biscuits in half. Place a sausage patty on bottom half, top with an egg and a slice of cheese. Cover with biscuit top. Serve immediately.
Tips
- For extra flaky biscuits, freeze the butter and grate it into the flour mixture.
- You can substitute bacon or ham for the sausage.
- Sandwiches can be assembled ahead and wrapped in foil; reheat in a 350°F oven for 10 minutes.
