Ingredients 1 1/2 cups chopped banana peppers (seeds removed for milder heat) 1/2 cup chopped onion 2 cloves garlic, minced 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro 2 tablespoons white vinegar 1 tablespoon lime juice 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon black pepper 1/4 teaspoon sugar 1/4 cup water (optional, for thinning)
Instructions Combine banana peppers, onion, garlic, cilantro, vinegar, lime juice, salt, black pepper, and sugar in a bowl. Stir well. For salsa: Serve immediately or refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld. For hot sauce: Transfer the mixture to a blender and blend until smooth. Add water a tablespoon at a time if needed to reach desired consistency. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, or lime juice. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Tips For a spicier sauce, include some of the pepper seeds. Keeps for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator. Great on tacos, grilled meats, or as a dip for chips.
