4 ripe bananas
1 pint vanilla ice cream
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup whipped cream
2 tablespoons chopped peanuts (optional)
Instructions
Make the caramel sauce: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar, stirring constantly until it turns amber, about 5 minutes.
Remove from heat and carefully whisk in the butter until melted, then slowly pour in the heavy cream while whisking. Stir in salt. Let cool slightly.
Slice the bananas into rounds or lengthwise halves.
Assemble the sundaes: Place 2 scoops of ice cream in each bowl. Top with banana slices.
Drizzle warm caramel sauce over the bananas and ice cream.
Add a dollop of whipped cream and sprinkle with chopped peanuts if desired. Serve immediately.
Tips
For extra flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon to the caramel sauce.
Store leftover caramel sauce in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks; reheat gently before using.
Use slightly underripe bananas for firmer texture.
