Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup warm water
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 egg, beaten
4 large apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 cup bread crumbs
1/4 cup melted butter
Instructions
In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Make a well and add warm water, oil, and egg. Mix until a soft dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover with a damp cloth and rest for 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a bowl, combine apples, sugar, cinnamon, raisins, and walnuts. Set aside.
On a floured cloth, roll out dough as thin as possible. Gently stretch with hands until paper-thin, forming a rectangle about 20x15 inches. Trim thick edges.
Sprinkle bread crumbs over dough, leaving a 2-inch border on all sides. Spread apple mixture over bread crumbs.
Using the cloth, lift one long side of dough and roll over filling. Tuck ends under. Carefully transfer strudel seam-side down to prepared baking sheet.
Brush top with melted butter. Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before slicing.
Tips
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
For extra crispiness, brush with butter halfway through baking.
